Ribat of Monastir
Islamic defensive fortress built in 796, one of the oldest in the Maghreb, erected during the Arab conquest.

Ottoman ribat, chic marina and Bourguiba heritage
On the Gulf of Hammamet, Monastir stretches across 15 km of coastline between beaches, marina and heritage. Birthplace of President Habib Bourguiba, the city is home to his monumental mausoleum and to the Ottoman ribat — one of the oldest Islamic fortresses in the Maghreb. With its international airport, the Sahel Metro and family beaches, it's a great base for exploring central-eastern Tunisia.
